Happy day after Labor Day!
Life has been moving along quite nicely. August is over and we are now three days into September. (By the way, it’s my Pennycat’s 6th birthday today! I can’t believe I’ve had her for 6 years already.)
Does it seem like there’s a baby boom to anyone else? I know or know of so many people that are pregnant right now or people who have just had a baby. It’s very wonderful! My old supervisor just had a sweet baby boy almost two weeks ago and I got to go meet him last week. So tiny and squishy! He joined a family with 3 girls already – so he has 3 adoring, older sisters! My current supervisor’s (the guy hired when my old supervisor changed jobs) wife is also pregnant — she’s about a week or so behind me and they found out in August that they are having a boy! One of my friends that is ready to pop any day is also expecting a boy. It’s wonderful because it gives me an excuse to buy the cutest little man outfits. Don’t get me wrong, I love shopping for our baby girl (maybe too much?!), but it’s so nice to have an excuse for both. Have you seen boy clothes lately? They have stepped up their game!
My parents came into town for Labor Day weekend and it was great having them visit. They loved seeing our new house and we loved hosting someone in our new house. My mom brought a few boxes of my old baby things for me to go through – her favorite outfits of mine that I wore and my favorite toys and books. We already have to get baby L* an additional bookshelf to host all the books. It was fun to look through everything and hear stories from my mom of how I was when I was a wee one. Spoiler Alert: I was very shy and very serious; the joke is that I was somewhat Benjamin Button-y — born an adult and got younger as I grew older. John was the opposite, so we’ll see how L turns out. I’m very intrigued to see what she looks like too. John and I both have green eyes so I’m guessing L will too. As for hair – I’m guessing she will be strawberry blonde. I don’t know if John has any red in his family so we might not get a full-on ginger baby but I’m thinking there will be some red in there somewhere.
We put together L’s furniture while my parents were here, too! I can’t believe how cute her room looks already. I still need to paint and put some things on the walls, but it’s all coming together nicely. We went to Babies R Us this weekend with my parents to buy some little things and we got a free umbrella stroller! That was exciting. A lot of people have waxed poetic to us about the importance of an umbrella stroller so that’s one thing off our list. And she already has oh so many clothes.
It was so nice to have Monday off. My parents left in the morning and John and I had the whole day just to ourselves. We haven’t had one in a while where we have absolutely nothing we have to do and we won’t have another one until October so I was so thankful for yesterday. Speaking of October, when that month rolls around, I’ll also be in my third trimester — YIKES! Can’t believe it. This pregnancy has flown by so far. I’m lovin it!
*We have had our baby girl name picked for a long time. I will probably use her name on the blog at some point but I’m not ready yet. I always get weirdly paranoid about private information online in the age of google. But if you’re curious — her name starts with the letter L. Some people already know her name (if you’re one of those people, please don’t say it in the comments yet!), and if you don’t, you’re welcome to take a guess. I’m not one of those people that thinks her name needs to be secret until birth and I will tell people if they ask, I just feel weird posting it online even before she is born. In the meantime, I’ll probably refer to her as L or Baby L. :)
